5 Rounds with Skippy and Wildfire, Pt. 2
This week, Skippy & Wildfire return to debate five more questions. This time the questions
are from fans like yourselves. Skippy won last week’s showdown so let’s see if Wildfire can
take this week’s edition. If you want your questions to be read, please send us an e-mail at

Round 1
Dan in Pittsburgh asks: “Will the newest season of The Ultimate Fighter will be the best season yet?”

Skippy: I will say yes, based solely on the personalities of the coaches. Rampage and Forrest will definitely bring
a lot of fun and excitement to the show that we really have not seen so far. Really, it will come down to the
fighters the UFC brings in and the personality we see from them. Dana mentioned a new format, so all in all I think
it will be very interesting to watch and could be the best yet.

Wildfire: I agree that this will be the best one yet, but not because of the fighters. This season will be the best
because of the additional fighters, bringing the total to 32 fighters instead of 16. This means that everyone will
have to fight to get into the house. Hopefully this eliminates the guys who quit the show and think that they are
going home to a woman who loves them. Rampage and Forrest will do an amazing job and let’s hope that
Rampage’s son will make an appearance. It’s always cool to see a softer side of UFC fighters.

Round 2
Ryan from Toronto asks: “Is moving to Middleweight is a smart move for Wanderlei Silva?”

Skippy: Took me some time to think about this one, but I think it is indeed smart. I'm going to  go out on a limb
and assume Wanderlei was probably a bit ‘roided up in PRIDE, and would have a harder time staying strong at
205 in the UFC.  But a leaner Silva at 185 could make him look closer to the fighter of old. He still will not be the
dominant fighter he once was, but Silva, even past his prime, is a damn good show. This would also be good for
the UFC to add to a division that needs personality, especially if Anderson Silva defeats Dan Henderson.

Wildfire: I agree but I also think that Wanderlei will fight Jardine before dropping to this class. In the
Middleweight Division, Silva matches up well against everyone but Anderson and Dan. Usually fighters experience
great success when they drop in weight classes. Mentally, I think that Wanderlei can use that, as he’s tasted
defeat too much lately.

Round 3
Evan from Indianapolis asks: “Is UFC 83 going to live up to it’s hype?”

Skippy: I have a hard time seeing how it won't. There are a couple ho-hum fights on the card (Seriously, who
wants to watch Alan "I'm 20 lbs over weight so I'll say I have the flu" Belcher." Sam Stout v. Rich Clementi has
huge potential, Nate Quarry v. Khalib Starnes is probably the hardest fight to call and will be dynamic, and Rich
Franklin v. Travis Lutter will be solid despite the current odds. Oh, and by the way, Georges FREAKING St. Pierre
gets to take his title back. GSP is the worth the price of admission by himself.

Wildfire: I have to disagree, because the hype from this event is coming from ticket sales and not because of the
card. All of the fights but one are easy picks. GSP will dominate Matt Serra, regardless of the outcome of the
previous fight. Travis Lutter will make the fight with Franklin competitive until he gasses midway through the 2nd
Round and Franklin TKO’s him. The only fight that I would consider a difficult pick is Ed Herman vs. Demian Maia.
Herman again goes up against a submission guy and, as long as he avoids those submissions, will punish his
opponent with strikes. UFC 84 will be the best card of the year!

Round 4
Janet from New Jersey wants to know: “Can Mirko Cro Cop rejuvenate his career with this move to
Dreamers?”

Skippy: Absolutely. Mirko isn't running from the UFC, he's acknowledging he has been sub-par for the level of
competition. He needs to take a step back, retool, and then come back to try to be the guy we all hope and know
he can be.

Wildfire: I agree but think that this is a double-edged sword. Mirko’s mental state will strengthen as he will gain
wins against sub-par fighters. I just don’t know if it’s Mirko’s mental state that cost him in the Octagon or if it was
better competition. I don’t think that the rematch between Mirko and Fedor will happen because if Mirko loses
then it really hurts his chances of getting back in the UFC.

Round 5
Reggie from Miami wonders: “Is Kimbo Slice a real threat to the world Of MMA?”

Skippy: No. The Tank Abbott fight was an embarrassment to the sport of MMA, a spectacle that even Vince
McMahon would find ridiculous. Brock Lesnar thinks he's over-hyped. Kimbo is indeed a beast and a freakish
human, but he doesn't have the control and probably lacks the discipline to go against a Top-20 Heavyweight.

Wildfire: I disagree at the moment. The problem isn’t Kimbo, even though he acted like a thug in his last fight
against Tank with his repeated pushing of the ref. The problem is Garry Shaw and his “booking” of events. Elite XC
has great fighters but it’s nothing more than a three ring circus most of the time. If I could compare this situation
to anything, it would be comparing TNA Wrestling to the WWE. Kimbo needs to fight real competition and stop
fighting guys who just look tough.
