Rage In The Cage 7 Johnny "Wildfire" Rage
|
In this edition of Rage In The Cage, I will cover UFC 78, thoughts on UFC 79, the Ultimate Fighter Finale, Fedor’s next fight, the current state of MMA,
and a special challenge. Let’s find out who “Wildfire” is burning for.
UFC 78 has come and gone and man, was it a tough pill to swallow. From top to bottom, minus the main event, the card looked to be terrific and the
undercard sure was. Unfortunately, the main card lacked a whole lot of fireworks. Lots of lopsided decisions were the trend as Karo Parisyan took the
cake with his lackluster effort in a unanimous decision victory over Ryo Chonnan. In fact, I saw more effort during the early 2000 brawl between Kobe
Bryant and Reggie Miller than I did in that fight. I just don’t think that Karo has what it takes to defeat the elite competition in the UFC’s Welterweight
Division. Maybe he will come into a fight in shape and prove me wrong, but I doubt it.
On the horizon for the UFC is the Ultimate Fighter Finale on December 8th; the Main Event is a terrific showdown in the Lightweight Division between
Clay Guida and Roger Huerta. Both are outstanding fighters and this could be the Fight Of The Year for 2007. Also on that card will be the finals of TUF 6
and the rest of the card will be filled out with matchups featuring the rest of the cast. I look for the finals to be between Mac Dazing (16-4-1) and
George Sotiropoulos (7-2).
UFC 79 Nemesis will also take place in December on the 29th in Las Vegas. With only three official fights announced so far, this could be the best card
in the history of the UFC. I’m personally excited for the long-awaited showdown between Chuck Liddell and Wanderlei Silva. I’m still not sure who to
take but I still think Chuck has one last KO in him before moving to Heavyweight.
I couldn’t believe my eyes when I saw this last headline, but it appears
that Fedor Emelianenko (supposed best Pound-4-Pound Fighter in the
World) will take on 7 foot 2 inch Hong Man Choi on New Years Eve. Yeah,
Fedor said he wanted to fight the best but instead, he’s fighting another
tomato can that will make his record look better. I think that if this trend
continues, he will be fighting all of the former American Gladiators before
2010. I mean, they are the best that America has to offer and I’m sure
that Malibu is looking for work. I do think that Siren would give him a run
for his money ‘cause that bitch had some upper body strength and huge
thighs.
One of the final things I would like to address is the amount of people
currently jumping off the MMA bandwagon because of the last UFC pay per
view. As most of you know, I’ve been down for the sport of MMA since I
first witnessed the Ultimate Fighting Championship back on November 12,
1993. There have been plenty of ups and downs following this sport,
whether it was finding it on pay per view or finding the VHS tapes at the
local video store. Most of the critics of the sport are huge boxing fans and
of course that’s ok, if you like guys just slapping each other for 15 rounds
and then finding out that one dude didn’t out-slap the other guy so it’s a
draw and nobody wins. I guess my point in this whole thing is that the
sport of MMA is still rising and won’t fall because some douche wearing a
stupid-looking hat or a liquored-up color commentator doesn’t understand
it. If you want to be a fair weather fan then put on a Notre Dame or
Chicago Cubs hat because the sport of MMA isn’t for you.
No, we didn't make up the name of the mag.

I would also like to announce that yours truly will start having All Star Editions of my MMA predictions starting with the next event on December 1st
with Cage Rage 24. The first person to be picking against me will be Skippy McMannis. The events to follow will all be different people and I’m out to
prove that when it comes to picking fight winners, I’m the best in the business. If you want to pick against me, please e-mail me at wildfire@scrubsports.
