Rage In The Cage 9
Johnny "Wildfire" Rage
Sean Sherk finally gets what he deserves (well, sort of), Ultimate Fighter Finale
this weekend, Randy Couture says “no” again, my beating at the hands of Skippy
McMannis, and much more.  Lets find out who “Wildfire” is burning for.

I’m going to start out with the utter ass beating that Skippy McMannis gave me in our
1st-ever MMA Pick ’em Contest.  Skippy scored 90 points out of a possible 100 and yours
truly scored a 68.  I’m still awaiting word on Skippy’s post-pick ’em drug test, as I think
that he wasn’t all natural.  Anyway, congrats Skippy and I look forward to our rematch
next week during the WEC show.

Next up would be the recent breaking news that Sean Sherk’s suspension for using
steroids in his fight last July with Hermes Franca was reduced from a year to only 6
months.  I personally think that this is crap and that Sherk deserves a full year
suspension, starting from December 4th, not July.  The reduction would mean that he is
actually able to fight in January if the UFC chooses to use him.  This totally sends the
wrong message to fighters, as it makes it seem like it’s okay to juice just as long as you
can drag out the process of the appeal to reduce your sentence. The blame isn’t totally on
Sherk though, as the CSAC botched the whole process.  Regardless, the Commission still
should’ve stood firm with it’s original 1-year suspension.

That little glimmer of hope of Randy Couture returning to the Octagon this February
has darkened. It was announced that Couture turned down the UFC’s offer for him to
defend his title against Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira.  Instead of The Natural, Tim “Oops, I
crapped my pants” Sylvia will take on Big Nog.  I’m thinking that Sylvia rides this one out
by Unanimous Decision.  Please come back, Randy!

Following in the footsteps of such greats as Zap, Lace, Siren, Diamond, and Skye,
Gina Carano will be a part of the new American Gladiators. Indeed, yours truly is excited
about this show returning to the air. However, I’m not excited about Hulk Hogan and
Muhammad Ali’s Daughter doing the commentary for the show.

The Ultimate Fighter Finale is this weekend and the event is headlined by Roger
Huerta and friend of Scrubsports.com Clay Guida.  This event features many fights that
are way too close to call, but don’t think for one second that means I won’t predict the
winners. You will see my picks posted on Friday, as I’m currently awaiting a challenger
in the 2nd Round of Scrubsports.com MMA Pick’em Contest.

For my “Spreading Wildfire” segment this week, I’m going to do something different
and pay tribute to an MMA Warrior that recently passed away.  For some of you who don’t
know, Sammy Vasquez entered the cage on October 20th with a pre-existing blood clot in
his brain.  He suffered a stroke during the fight and was placed in the hospital. He was
released a few days ago but ultimately passed away.  It’s truly a shame that something like
this had to happen in a sport that prides itself in prohibiting such outcomes.  There are
many things that I would love to see changed in the sport of MMA, chief among which
would be stricter exams for fighters who compete in smaller companies.  It seems that
more people are getting injured in small shows due to lack of knowledge by the brass of
these companies.  I wish there was a way for the sanctioning bodies to hold these people
accountable for their lack of knowledge, but that’s just wishful thinking.  Here’s to hoping
one day it will happen.
