| Thoughts on UFC 80 and Ultimate Fight Night 12, Another Pro Wrestler is joining MMA, a MAJOR ANNOUNCEMENT from me, and my thoughts on unsanctioned MMA Fighting. Let’s find out who “Wildfire” is burning for. In the time it took my millions of torches read my last article, the UFC has already produced two events. UFC 80 took place in New Castle, England and was full of upsets and one upset steroid user. After winning the UFC Lightweight Title, B.J. Penn called Sean Sherk a “dead man.” Well, this didn’t sit well with Sherk and he went to the Octagon to have a war of words with Penn. Sherk came off looking like a moron, claiming that he didn’t care about the fans and stuff of that nature. Word also came out that Sherk refused to sign autographs later because some of the fans booed him. Apparently steroids also improves your hearing, as Sherk was able to differentiate everyone’s voices and match them with their faces and refuse autographs to them. The UFC returned to action this past Wednesday with Ultimate Fight Night 12. The card was filled with mostly Lightweight fighters and former TUF fighters. After it was all said and done, the card was exciting minus the main event. I don’t blame Mike Swick for that though because he did everything to win the fight as his opponent Josh Burkman basically stalled and tried to lay and pray his way to victory. The UFC will return to pay-per-view next Saturday night with UFC 81: Breaking Point. The Main Event will be Frank Mir vs. Former WWE Champion Brock Lesnar. My breakdown of UFC 81 will be available Monday for those of you looking forward to it. On the topic of former WWE wrestlers, yours truly broke the news on Wednesday that Bobby Lashley will enter the world of MMA. Lashley is a former WWE United States and ECW Heavyweight Champion. He’s a former NCAA and NAIA Amateur Champion as well. Lashley did say that he wouldn’t join the UFC right away, as he would take fights in another promotion first. I personally think that this is a good move for the man commonly known as “Black Lesnar.” Why not make a move that’s more stable and less demanding on your body? As I mentioned before, I have a MAJOR ANNOUNCEMENT to make. For the longest time, I’ve been asked when I was going to return to the Octagon. Well, ladies and gentlemen, that day is March 2nd and the place is the Spartan Bowl in Connersville, Indiana. My opponent is a former WWE, WCW, and ECW wrestler. He will be making his MMA debut and is known worldwide. He’s the “Ugandan Giant” Kamala! I’ m certain that I can earn a victory in this fight but I must watch out for his Ugandan Splash and the always impressive Air Africa. I’m going to take him down and work my ground game. I will post my training pictures and maybe some video diaries as the fight grows closer. Click HERE for information on the fight card and ticket availability. As I work my part time job at a mega “Get your Heath Ledger Movies before they’re gone” retail store, I’ ve noticed a weird trend when talking to people about MMA. So in this edition of “Spreading Wildfire” I will tackle this subject of fake MMA fighters and their journey to be cool. For me, the conversation is always about upcoming fights and favorite fighters and such. Well, for these other “fans” it’s about telling me how they fight MMA with their friends and stuff of that nature. To be perfectly honest, you don’t impress me and you don’t appear any tougher in my eyes. I suppose with the rising popularity of MMA, people will do what they did when pro wrestling was gaining popularity. They will practice these things in their backyards, basements, garages and trampolines. While I’m hardly the person to be telling people what to do, I want to remind them of how stupid it is to do those things without being sanctioned or properly coached. There’s really no honor in being “Brookville’s Best Backyard MMA Guy.” I’m certain that these guys are the same ones that always talked about how tough they were in high school, yet never even had a fight or a confrontation. I’m sure we could pick them out in a crowd, much like fanatic Christians can tell who’s going to hell and who isn’t. My whole point here is that if you’re tough, join an MMA gym and stop beating the crap out of your loser friends. I have ties to an MMA gym so here’s their myspace link: http://www.myspace.com/nomercycombatclub Add Scrubsports.com to your myspace friends. http://myspace.com/scrubsportdotcom |
